Jamshedpur : The 37th Junior National Handball Championship (Boys), which kicks of at JRD Tata Sports Complex tomorrow.
Over 600 players and officials from different states and academies will participate at the six-day event being organised by Jharkhand State Handball Association (JSHA). Teams from Punjab, Delhi Sports Authority of India (Gujarat), Uttar Pradesh and Goa have already arrived.
Sunil Bhaskaran, vice-president, corporate services, Tata Steel will inaugurate the event tomorrow. Indian Olympic Association secretary general Rajiv Mehta, his counterpart at the Handball Federation of India Anandeshwar Pandey and CEO S M Bali are expected the grace the inaugural ceremony.
Jamshedpur is hosting a national meet for the third time. While the senior national championship was conducted at Gopal Maidan in 2003, the Federation Cup was played at JRD Tata Sports Complex in 2008.
The 16-member state squad announced by the JSHA today has maximum eight players from Tata Steel Handball Training Centre followed by four from East Singhbhum, three from Bokaro and one from Seraikela-Kharsawa.
The squad comprises Syed Azhar Hussain (captain), Rahul Kumar Gupta, Tousif Khan, Avinash Kumar Dubey, Nadeem Quereshi, Anil Sahu, Md Alamgeer, Wasiul Hassan (all Tata Steel Handball Training Centre), Md Sarfaraz Nawaz, Shahnawaz Ansari, Abhishek Kumar Dixit, Govind Mukhi (all East Singhbhum), Sandeep Kumar, Gautam Kumar, Nand Kishore Bhardwaj (all Bokaro) and Shashikant (Seraikela-Kharsawan).
