
Jamshedpur: Helipads will be set up as a part of election management exercise in the East Singhbhum district which is spread in the remote areas bordering Bengal on one side and Odisha on the other.
“We are taking every step to ensure safety and prompt response. The helipads will be set up mainly for movement of forces during a period of emergency and some of them will be having night landing facility. At some of the polling booths the polling officers and poll materials will be carried in the choppers,” said the official.
He said the setting up the helipads is needed for smooth sailing of the poll process and the spots have been identified after a meticulous survey.
He pointed out while the administration is going to set up 32 helipads for an hasslefree poll in the district, they have also taken step to ensure a hassle free electioneering by leaders of various political parties in the remote areas of the district.
“For enabling the political parties for public meeting in the remote areas we have identified 16 spots for setting up helipads, but here we will only provide a strategically suitable location. The helipads will have to be made by the political parties who will need to organise a meeting at the remote areas as mentioned above,” the deputy commissioner pointed out.
He, when queried, said that whenever any senior political leader to hold meeting at any remote area, the district administration has make security arrangement for leader well in advance.
In view of recent Maoist attacks in the State, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth and incident free polling to assembly elections on December 7 in Jamshedpur.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer, Ravi Shankar Shukla said that sensitive and super sensitive booths have been identified in the Assembly areas and security personnel would be deployed accordingly. “We are confident that the elections will be free and fair and we have finalised every details for the poll,” he noted.
Meanwhile, 800 police force of the district will be assisted by jawans of CRPF, Jharkhand Armed Police, homeguards, Rapid Action Police (RAP) and Rapid Action Force for maintaining security at the 1626 polling booths in the constituency.
