Jamshedpur: In a significant legal development, the court has sentenced the owners of M/s Mahalakshmi Medico in Mango, Ramesh Gupta and Aarti Gupta, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for the illegal sale of banned and intoxicating drugs. The verdict was delivered by the court of ADJ-2 Abhash Verma after thorough proceedings.
The case stemmed from a raid conducted on August 24, 2015, when Drug Inspector Ramashish Kumar Jha, acting on instructions from SDO Dhalbhum, led a team including Executive Magistrate Anita Kerketta and Rajshri Lalita Bavla to raid Mahalakshmi Medico. During the raid, intoxicants and banned drugs, including Cozin and Alprazolam, were seized. Notably, these medications are meant to be sold only with a doctor’s prescription, and the shop failed to provide detailed records of drug sales during the inspection.
The court heard the testimonies of 18 individuals related to the case before reaching a verdict. Both Ramesh Gupta and Aarti Gupta were found guilty and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment. However, the court granted them restricted bail for 30 days following the sentencing.
