Jamshedpur, June 1: Unidentified persons killed three members of a family including a 95 -year-old woman in Khadgu under Potka Police Station in East Singhbhum district late on Sunday night, said Rural SP Shailendra Kumar Burnwal.
The attackers first killed houseowner Nimai alias Sudhan Hansdah aged around 65 years and later killed Hansdah’s wife Delho aged around 60 years and his elderly mother, Sonia using sharp weapon.
According to reports, the attackers killed the trio for allegedly practicing withcraft and there is also news about land dispute which may be the reason behind the murder.
The attackers before leaving set fire to Hansdah’s hut, threw chili powder in his nephew Makhan’s eyes and hung him feet up from a nearby tree.
The incident came to light when the villagers saw smoke come out from the gutted house this morning. The three bodies were seen lying in a pool of blood by them and they reported it to the police.
Burnwal said the exact cause behind the incident has not yet been established but witchcraft was suspected as one of the reasons.
Police is investigating the matter and is trying to arrest the culprits involved, SP added.
