28 Jamshedpur girls to visit ISRO

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, July 30: At East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi’s initiative, 28 girl students from rural areas of Jamshedpur will get an opportunity to visit the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on August 10. This special exposure visit is aimed to inspire young girls by introducing them to the world of space and scientific innovation.

The selected students, primarily from Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools and Arjunbera Residential School run by the Welfare Department, were chosen through a competitive selection process. Last month, a district-level written competition was held among girl students from government and residential schools. A total of 30 students were selected based on merit. However, due to parental concerns, two students had to opt out, bringing the final number to 28 participants.

DC Satyarthi stated that the initiative was designed to boost confidence and broaden the horizons of talented girls from rural Jharkhand. “There is no shortage of talent in rural areas. What’s often missing is exposure and access to role models. This initiative is a step to bridge that gap,” he said. He also mentioned that the concept was first launched in Gumla two years ago and was now being successfully implemented in East Singhbhum.

The visit to ISRO was expected to be a transformative experience for the students, allowing them to witness space research and innovation first-hand. The district administration was making special arrangements to ensure a smooth and enriching tour.

This initiative was being hailed as a forward-thinking approach to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education among girls and encourage them to dream big. The tour not only promised to be a memorable experience for the students but also serve as a significant step toward empowering the next generation of women in science and technology.
