28 Jamshedpur girl students fly to ISRO’s Sriharikota Centre

Jamshedpur: In a remarkable step to inspire young minds towards science and technology, 28 girl students from various government schools of East Singhbhum district will embark on an educational visit to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, the launch site of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on 11 August. The programme has been initiated by the District Administration, East Singhbhum, under the educational tour scheme inspired by the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

The selected team comprises students from PM Shri Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Ashram Residential School, Jharkhand Balika Residential School, CM School of Excellence, and other government institutions across the district. The list of selected participants has already been shared with ISRO authorities for coordination. To ensure proper guidance and safety during the trip, Executive Magistrate Mrityunjay Kumar along with other instructors will accompany the students.

The send-off ceremony took place at the Collectorate premises, where Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi congratulated the participants and extended his best wishes. Addressing the students, he said that the tour was specially designed for girls from rural and underprivileged backgrounds to provide them with exposure to opportunities in the fields of space science, engineering, and research. “This exposure visit will give students a direct understanding of ISRO’s advanced research, rocket launches, and satellite technology, which they can relate to their classroom learning,” he said.

During their time at SDSC SHAR, the students will have the opportunity to witness cutting-edge facilities, interact with scientists, and learn about India’s achievements in space exploration. The aim is to inspire them to dream beyond conventional career paths and to consider future prospects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The Deputy Commissioner expressed confidence that the visit would be a turning point in the lives of the participating students. “It is my hope that this trip becomes a lifelong memory and motivates you to aim high. Opportunities like these not only broaden knowledge but also instil the confidence to pursue careers in challenging and innovative domains,” he said.

The district administration has expressed gratitude to ISRO for facilitating the programme and has reiterated its commitment to providing similar opportunities in the future, ensuring that talented students from even the most remote areas get a platform to explore and excel in modern scientific fields.
