Jamshedpur: A 23 year old newly-wed girl committed suicide by drowning in Subernarekhariver along Sitaramdera police station area today morning.The victim was identified as ChandniKumari, wife of Jyoti Prakash Singh, a resident of Bagbera Colony.
Married in January 2014, Chandni (23) left her house to rush to Sakchi for meeting her brother Manoj Singh who worked in a mobile shop in Sakchi Market. Her brother and the shop-owner, Vishnu Agrawal, rushed at the spot it was too late.The brother rushed her to the MGM Medical College and Hospital where the doctor on emergency duty declared her brought dead.
Officer-in-charge, Sitaramdera police station, Sushil Chowdhury confirmed that a young woman to have committed suicide by drowning in the Subarnarekha.
Her brother Manoj Singh said that they had got Chandni married to Jyoti Prakash on January 25 last year, when they had given cash and dowry worth over Rs 5 lakh, but the in-law people, including the husband were money monger and were demanding more money.
Notably, the cases of men and women jumping from the Mango bridge for committing suicide is regular. Almost every month a woman or a man is reported to have jumped from the Mango bridge, but also rescued by the fishermen and others.
With a sudden rise in suicide attempts from bridges connecting the city, the Jamshedpur-based suicide prevention centre, ‘Jeevan’ has demanded to the administration of East Singhbhum and SeraikelaKharsawan districts to ensure proper security at the bridges of the city.
Concerned over rising cases of suicides attempts from the Jay Prakash Narayan Setu in Mango and Kharkai Bridge in Adityapur, Jeevan is taking initiatives to provide security at the busiest bridges connecting the city. It has also raised a demand to ensure proper safety at two new bridges that are coming up in the form of toll bridge which is coming on River Kharkai connecting Adityapur with Kadma and another bridge coming up adjacent to it.
With a rise in suicide attempts from bridges connecting the city, the Jamshedpur-based suicide prevention centre, ‘Jeevan’ has decided to send fresh warnings to the administration of East Singhbhum and SeraikelaKharsawan districts to ensure proper security at the bridges of the city after a woman committed suicide from Kharkai Bridge in Adityapur.
Very recently two suicides attempt were made at Mango Bridge. Two middle aged women tried to end their lives from the bridge however the local people managed to save them.
Officials of Jeevan have decided retake up the issue with the deputy commissioners of the twin district over the issue and demanding immediate action ensuring safety at bridges.
