21 join XLRI’s PG certificate in General Management programme for Working Executives

Jamshedpur: XLRI- Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur inaugurated its new programme � Postgraduate Certificate in General Management for Working Executives and Entrepreneurs.

The formal inaugural session was held in presence of Fr. E. Abraham, S.J, Director of XLRI, Dr. Ashis K Pani, Dean [Academics], XLRI, Prof. M. G. Jomon, Associate Dean [Corporate Programmes], XLRI and Prof. Prantik Ray, PGCGM Program Coordinator at XLRI.

21 participants who are working professionals joined the programme and were present at the inaugural session. After a four-day long induction session at XLRI Campus in Jamshedpur, the classes would be held at XIMR, St. Xavier�s College Campus in Mumbai.

Addressing the new students at the inaugural session, Fr. E. Abraham said, �To outperform in today�s highly competitive and far-reaching business environment, it is important for business leaders to continuously up-skill their knowledge base and acquire new skill-sets and competencies. At XLRI, we guide our students with industry-ready course content, engaging classes, ample faculty interactions and a peer-to-peer learning environment with a particular focus on sustainable business practices�.

�The eleven months programme will focus on competency-based education with a view to leveraging classroom learning to enhance professional performance. The programme will be pursued in such a manner as to encourage critical and lateral thinking and integrate theory with practice as is seen in general management. This programme has been devised in a way that will not only provide theoretical knowledge that goes into the making of a successful leader, but also brings out the best in each student.

I am sure at the end of the eleven-month programme, we at XLRI would have helped shape future business leaders who will be enriched not just in conceptual and operational aspects related to execution of day-to-day business activities, but also mangers who will be equipped to embrace a meticulous, explore-every-solution attitude and an appraisal of every business problem through a prism of varied management disciplines,� Fr. E. Abraham added.

Talking about the new students, Prof. Prantik Ray, the Program Coordinator at XLRI Jamshedpur said, �There are 21 participants and all are working executives with around 8-10 years of average experience. The background is extremely varied and it ranges from Architect, Banker, Oil and Gas, IT, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Agro-industry, Security Services etc.�

�During the 4 days at XLRI Campus, the participants would be taking part in various induction sessions coordinated by XLRI professors. Besides they would also be taking part in yoga sessions every day,� Prof. Prantik Ray added.

XLRI launched the new programme Postgraduate Certificate in General Management (PGCGM) for Working Executives and Entrepreneurs in collaboration with Xavier Institute of Management and Research [XIMR], Mumbai. On successful completion of the course, the students would be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in General Management during the Annual Graduation Ceremony held at XLRI Campus in Jamshedpur.

The programme aims to provide an opportunity to the participants to earn a professional qualification in General Management while working and in developing a General Manager’s perspective of Business, to equip participants with appropriate tools and techniques to take effective and considered business decisions and help develop scientific thinking through extensive use of cases and other pedagogy. The programme will include core courses in key functional areas (Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, and Operations), besides General Management courses.

Commenting on the program, Prof. Prantik Ray, the Program Coordinator at XLRI Jamshedpur said, �The programme is to be overseen by efficient and experienced faculty of both XLRI and XIMR. This proposed programme has been designed keeping in mind the working executives in Mumbai, Pune and other cities in Maharashtra. The course will allow executives to pursue a rigorous schedule that helps them leverage classroom learning to their professional roles. Participants will develop a holistic General Management and Business Leadership perspective.�

The programme is of 11 months duration with four terms and comprises of 15 compulsory courses and a dissertation spread over the four terms.
