Jamshedpur, Sept. 15: Reiterating the clean river Suvarnarekha campaign, team JUSCO, Tata Steel along with volunteers from Beyond Fitness, Change India Foundation, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Femina, Rotract Club of KMPM and others, made an effort to clean Suvarnarekha at Gandhi Ghat near the bridge.
On Sunday morning more than 150 volunteers toiled together and collected waste of about 2.75 tonnes maximum of which were discarded clothes, plastic, tins and glass.
The team had to wade their way through human faeces which proves open defacing is still a problem and found people washing vehicles, bathing and washing clothes in the river.
The team members urged citizens of Jamshedpur to help by making an effort not to dirty this area and keep our river bed clean. Be Zimmedaar towards your own Shaher and save our natural resources to keep our city beautiful, green and clean.
A team member said, “We have water now but if our river beds are dirty then in a few years we will have no water to drink. With Pujas round the corner we appeal all citizens not to dirty the river especially during immersion. Please help and join us to keep up this community work which is an initiative of Jamshedpur, by Jamshedpur, for Jamshedpur.”
