Jamshedpur: The city is set to host the prestigious 17th Swadeshi Mela at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur, from March 13 to March 21, 2024. This annual fair has become a symbol of cultural diversity and economic vitality, attracting participants and visitors from various states, including Jharkhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar, and Assam.
With around 290 stalls representing various sectors such as handicrafts, small and cottage industries, education, real estate, auto industries, textiles, handlooms, FMCG, electronics, health, furniture, and the social sector, the Swadeshi Mela promises a comprehensive showcase of talent and entrepreneurship.
The formal inauguration ceremony is scheduled for March 13 at 5 pm and will be graced by esteemed guests, including Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, former minister and MLA Saryu Roy, and other dignitaries. The fair will be open every day from 11 am to 10 pm, and as a tradition, entry will be free for all visitors.
The Swadeshi Mela is not just about commerce; it’s a celebration of culture and community. Every day will feature competitions and seminars covering a wide array of topics, including seat and draw, idea pitch competition, yoga, costumes of great men, quiz on know India, rangoli, yoga competitions, and discussions on family, society, and nation-building for senior citizens.
The daily cultural evenings promise to be a visual and auditory delight, showcasing Chhau dance, folk dances from different states, a poet’s conference, magic shows, songs, and ghazals performed by local artists. This year’s highlight includes an open platform for emerging local talents in music and dance, providing a stage for budding artists in Jamshedpur.
The Swadeshi Mela is not just about entertainment; it’s also an opportunity for intellectual engagement. Seminars will be conducted on various topics, including the role of voters, the role of new/young voters in elections, startup talks, the new education policy, creating a dowry-free society, combating domestic violence, and discussions on health.
This year, special arrangements have been made for the launch of the Indian Institute of New Products and Services, adding an innovative touch to the fair. The much-anticipated Kavi Sammelan, featuring national-level poets, will take place on Sunday, March 17, at 7:00 pm.
In a recent press conference, key figures associated with the Swadeshi Mela, including National Working Committee member of Swadeshi Jagran Manch Manoj Kumar Singh, CBMD Director J.K.M. Raju, Director Manju Thakur, Swadeshi Jagran Manch’s department coordinator Rajkumar Sah, department co-coordinator Amit Mishra, and District Coordinator Rajpati Devi, along with representatives from the Self-reliant India Campaign Jamshedpur, provided insights into the upcoming festivities.
