Jamshedpur, Sept. 25: Following alleged suspension of 17 class XII students of Church School, Beldih, on chanting religious slogans in the school campus yesterday,  Shiksha Satyagraha along with a number of Hindu organisations protested outside the East Singhbhum district education office.

Led by Ankit Anand and Appu Tiwary along with 50 others protested outside the education office on Wednesday demanding withdrawal of the school’s decision and demanded action against the school. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), students wing of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on the other hand protested outside the school and also met principal L. Peterson protesting the action taken against the student.
The  school officials called them and complained that 17 of them were being sent to a week long study leave as they chanted slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the campus which was an indisciplined behaviour on the part of students. The school didn’t use the word suspension but said that these students will have to be at home for a week.

“We are fighting for the sake of the students. The action taken can never be justified. Schools say that they are secular and teach their students to respect all religion so why do we come across these incidents almost every now and then,” said Anand.

Will not allow Jharkhand to become Kerala, Bengal: BJP

Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP president Dinesh Kumar condemned the alleged suspension of several students by a city-based school for chanting Jai Shriram. He said the BJP government was committed to Sriram, Raksha and Rashtravad. He said the BJP will not allow Jharkhand to become Kerala and West Bengal.

Missionary organizations should improve their style of functioning. The said incident appears to be an act of religious intolerance aimed to harass Hindus. This is also a violation of the Constitutional provisions. Our party has taken a serious view of the incident. We request the deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum to take necessary action against the school management, he said.
