Jamshedpur, Feb. 4: Tata Steel kick-started the Kati Premier League on 3 January, 2017. Kati Premier League, a round-robin tournament, has drawn around 1,500 players from about 240 teams from Jharkhand and Odisha. The matches of Kati Premier League are being played under two categories—senior and junior.
The first series of the tourney’s league matches were played at Palidih, in Potka block, and saw Nachasoi A Warriors and FC Fuljhari Tigers as the winners in senior and junior categories.
The tourney’s matches will be played across eight locations of the twin states. The finals will be held at Jaipal Maidan in Karandih, Jamshedpur, on March 4.
Kati is one of the tribal sports, traditionally played by youth from Santhal community.
Over the last few years, Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Society has been organising village level tournaments to revive and popularize Kati.
