15 lakh toilets to be constructed in FY 2017-18: Chief Secretary

Ranchi, June 23: Reviewing Swaksha Bharat Mission, Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma today said a total of 15 lakh toilets are to be constructed in FY 2017-18 and that sakhi mandals and gram swakshata samiti should be included in the project.

She directed the state officials concerned to ensure transfer of funds in the bank accounts of all VOs on the given parameters.

Verma said that all the sakhi mandals of the districts should be trained and included in the construction of individual toilets and the photos of constructed toilets should be uploaded. She said that private toilets in all the households in rural areas should be built under MGNREGS, adding further that the DDC and DPM should be given the responsibility of MGNREGS works and toilet construction projects. ODF panchayats should be added with ODF plus and probed if the toilets are being used or not, she said.

The department officials told the CS that in order to construct 15 lakh toilets, VOs have been tagged in large numbers. 750 village panchayats have become ODF.

Principal Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation A. P. Singh and other officers were present at the meeting.
