In his address, Director Goutam Sutradhar congratulated the graduates, commending their achievements and highlighting their success in placements and inter-NIT competitions. He shared his vision document for NIT Jamshedpur, emphasizing the need for systemic changes to improve the institute’s ranking.
The vision document encompasses initiatives such as faculty and staff recruitment, financial resource utilization, development of a multi-disciplinary research center, and support for economically challenged students. Director Sutradhar stressed the importance of collective effort, determination, and commitment from the NIT Jamshedpur community to implement these changes.
As the institute stands centrally in the industrial belt of Adityappur, the vision document proposes the creation of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to foster an Industry-Academia Governance interface.
Chairman Board of Governor T. Krishna Prasad, I.P.S. (Retd.) expressed gratitude to the organizers for the success of the convocation and extended best wishes to the graduands, advising them to “keep up the good work” and maintain a positive mindset for a prosperous future.
Today, we are in the competitive environment, we have to be always ready to adopt new changes in the system, otherwise we will be lagging. Recently, on 6th November 2023, I first visited this Institute, interacted students, faculty, staff, visited departments, central facilities and other important places in the campus. I felt happy while interacting faculty, staff and students at their work places. I found them that they are sincere, putting more efforts and having passion to work for this Institute. Despite their best efforts, their success is not being reflected in the form of rank to this Institute. It means this Institute needs some revamping in the system. I too realized and have sincere concern about Institute rank. Therefore, I my self perused and made myself aware about the ranking parameters and thereby given a roadmap in the form of my vision document for NIT Jamshedpur to bring the overall change in the system. I have a strong belief in me that my vision document surely helps this Institute to grow to greater heights. The vision document includes activities such as faculty and staff recruitment to maintain student faculty ratio, full financial resources utilisation, faculty with PhD degree, quantity and quality of publications by faculty and research scholars, increase of PhD student intake, one-to-one learning development for better graduate outcome, starting a Multi-disciplinary research centre in the emerging areas like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, big data analytics, IOT, etc., conducting mega placement drives, special coaching classes to the weaker/non-performer students, supporting economically, socially and physically challenged students, adopting corporate social responsibility with the support of academic peers and employers, providing skill development training to the youth from the nearby villages.
The 13th convocation of NIT Jamshedpur served as a platform to celebrate achievements, acknowledge distinguished guests, and outline a vision for the institute’s future growth.
