Jamshedpur, May 29: A 14-year-old student from DAV Public School, Bistupur, died of a heart attack on Thursday morning, leaving his family and community in shock.
The incident occurred in 10 No. Basti under Sidhgora police station limits and has left the local community in shock.
Class 9 student Sai, the only son of Vijay Nandan, was known as a cheerful and healthy boy. According to family members, the incident unfolded around 8:30 am when Sai complained of a severe headache shortly after returning from the toilet. Initially, his parents assumed it was a routine issue and applied oil to his head, advising him to rest. However, within minutes, his pain intensified, prompting the family to rush him to Mercy Hospital in Baridih.
At the hospital, his condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite being administered oxygen in the emergency room, Sai fainted. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, doctors referred him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH). Unfortunately, by the time the family reached TMH around 9:30 am, doctors declared Sai dead.
Sai’s uncle, Sachchidanand, confirmed that the hospital report cited cardiac arrest as the cause of death. The sudden loss has left the family in deep grief. “We still cannot believe how a healthy and lively child could pass away so suddenly,” he said. He also shared a touching memory from the previous night, recalling how Sai had lovingly massaged his father’s feet, smiling and saying, “I feel like doing it.” The memory has only deepened the family’s sorrow.
The incident has shocked the entire neighbourhood, casting a shadow of grief over the locality. Sai’s last rites were performed on Friday amidst a wave of emotional outpouring.
Commenting on the unusual case, Dr. Ranjit Panda from Sadar Hospital described the incident as extremely rare and concerning. “Heart attacks are typically seen in older individuals. For a teenager to suffer cardiac arrest is extraordinary,” he said. He pointed to possible contributing factors such as mental stress, poor dietary habits, or intense physical activity, though emphasized that the exact cause could only be confirmed after a detailed medical investigation.
The tragic event serves as a wake-up call about rising health vulnerabilities among children and adolescents, prompting calls for greater awareness and precaution regarding their physical and mental well-being.
