14 films screened at ‘Better Earth International Film Festival’ in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Sept 16:   ‘Better Earth International Film Festival was organized at Tulsi Bhavan in Bistupur in association with ‘Film- O- Kahani Production,’ an organization of young and independent filmmakers. Fourteen Indian and foreign films were screened at the festival. The films were themed on saving earth and issues that were women-related.

The film festival was inaugurated by former Head of Tata Steel’s corporate Communications, Prabhat Sharma in a unique manner befitting of ‘Better Earth International Film Festival.’ Water was poured in a vase containing a plant sapling.

In his inaugural address, Chief Guest Prabhat Sharma observed, “In modern day environs and lifestyles, there is a need for independent voice in the media. Platforms like Better Earth is such a platform where independent voices are heard. It might be a platform where efforts may be comparatively small but the impact is definitely huge and effective. The GDP of our country is not high primarily because of the current socio economic status of women. Women should have the right to independent decisions in society.”

The Festival opened with a film made by ‘Film-O-Kahani’ team produced by tribal activists. Among the eminent media and social activists present at the Festival were B Vijay Murty, Barnali Chakraborty, Arvind Tiwari, Narendra Kumar, Dev Gopal Mandal and Arun Kumar Singh.

Film Festival to be held four days a year

Dev Gopal Mandal of ‘Film-O-Kahani’ informed, “Better Earth International Film Festival is a platform created by independent filmmakers from across the world. Films on this platform will be screened on four different days in a year.” A poster of ‘Caravan International Science Festival’ was released at the conclusion of the Festival.

YUVA honours women entrepreneurs

YUVA, an organization dedicated towards the rights of women, honored 33 self reliant contributors to family coffers and reaching out helping hands to various social causes. Among such women honoured were single women who had established themselves as epitomes of self reliance.
