Jamshedpur: A 12th-grade student, Sumit Dan, hailing from Ghatshila, has accomplished a remarkable feat by creating a software that allows laptops or computers to be controlled solely through eye movements. His software, named “Eye Contact Mouse Cursor,” opens the door for disabled individuals to operate computers with the use of their irises. The software is set to be launched in the market soon.
One of the standout features of this software is that it activates the mouse cursor when you blink your eyes and enables scrolling when you move your irises up and down. Sumit Dan showcased this innovative software at an international exhibition held in Bengaluru from October 17 to 19. The exhibition saw the participation of over 200 companies from India and around the world, including countries like Germany, Finland, Italy, China, Japan, and Amazon, and all of them lauded the software’s capabilities.
Following the exhibition, five companies, including Stem India, Cell2 Crowd from Germany, and a Finnish company, have expressed interest in collaborating with Sumit to launch the software (MoU). It now depends on which company Sumit chooses for the MoU. He has already registered the patent for this software in his name and has founded his startup company, Anjaneya Enterprises.
The “Eye Contact Mouse Cursor” software will be made available in the market through a pen drive. Users will need to install the pen drive into a computer or laptop, and upon startup, the software will be installed, and its web cameras will begin reading the user’s eye movements. The software initiates operation as soon as it detects eye movements. By turning your head left or right, the cursor on the screen also moves accordingly. A blink of the eyes serves as a click, and moving the pupils up and down results in cursor scrolling. The software also includes a virtual keyboard, allowing users to type by using eye-controlled cursor clicks. Additionally, the software offers voice modulation capabilities, enabling control via voice commands. Sumit is currently working on launching the software with a bootable pen drive.
Sumit’s inspiration for creating this software came from his best friend, an IT professional who lost his arms and legs in a road accident, causing him to sink into depression. Witnessing his friend’s struggle, Sumit was determined to create a solution. He put in considerable effort and received unwavering support from his parents, who refused to let technical glitches and setbacks deter them. Sumit’s aspirations extend to becoming a data scientist and delving deeper into Artificial Intelligence at the highest levels.
