11 year-old victim of reckless fly-ash dumping at Hata dies at TMH

Jamshedpur: Mansa Dev, the 11 year-old victim of reckless fly-ash dumping by Shah Sponge Iron Company in Hata under Potka block succumbed to critical burn injuries at Tata Main Hospital on Tuesday.

Another victim of the incident, Ramo Mahali, 9, is under treatment for critical burn injuries at MGM Hospital. After the girl�s death, he is now going to be shifted to TMH, sources said.

The mishap occurred on 10th March last when slag was being dumped at a site in Potka reportedly on behalf of the company.

Condemning the incident, local BJP leaders led by district president Dinesh Kumar met representatives of Shah Sponge Iron Company and demanded adequate compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

The company officials gave Rs 50,000 in cash and a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to the victim�s family in compensation on Kumar�s intervention. They also reportedly gave their consent to the demand for job to any one member of the family in the company.

Kumar, who reached the hospital after coming to know of the death, assured to help the family members of the deceased. He talked to the company officials and demanded shifting of the surviving victim of the slag dumping mishap. The expenses of treatment of the child will be borne by the company, Kumar said.

After coming to know of the incident, BJP leader of Potka Haldhar Das had taken the victims to MGM Hospital for treatment. The girl was shifted to TMH late yesterday night as her condition worsened.
