10th CII Manufacturing Conclave in Jamshedpur: Stakeholders deliberate on challenges, potential and possibilities

Jamshedpur, July 6: The 10^th Manufacturing Conclave was organized by CII Eastern Region at a hotel in Adityapur (Jamshedpur) with the theme of integrating Global Value Chain through Competitiveness – Sustainability – Technology.

Speaking at the Inaugural Session, Jitendra Kumar Singh, IAS Secretary, Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand focused on the rising trends of the share of manufacturing in the GSDP of Jharkhand and the potential of the state in different manufacturing spaces viz pharmaceutical and solar energy which is aligned with worldwide vision of sustainability.

Amit Ganeriwalla, Senior Partner of McKinsey & Co. put light on the diverse and the robust capital market and the huge skilled workforce of India. He emphasized re-imagining the manufacturing sector of the country in the new age of digitalization.

Joining virtually in the Conclave inaugural, Dr Rene Van Berkel, Country Representative, UNIDO spoke at length about the role of inclusive and the sustainable development of society. He said that despite India being ranked as the sixth largest manufacturing economy of the world, her total labor force participation is lowest among Asian manufacturing economies, due to lowest female labor force participation.

Ravindra Kulkarni, Convener – CII Jharkhand Manufacturing Panel & Plant Head – Jamshedpur, Tata Motors Ltd, briefed about the promising growth of the economy of India amidst the changing geo-political and the post pandemic effect. He deliberated on the integral role of manufacturing sector which contributes 17 percent of the GDP in fostering the export growth of the country.

Ramphal Nehra, Co- Chairman, CII Eastern Region Manufacturing Sub Committee & Director & Plant Manager Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd spoke about the different initiatives undertaken by the government of India namely PLI scheme and national manufacturing policy to propel the Industry 5.0.

Speaking about the role of MSMEs in Manufacturing, Tapas Sahu, Member, CII National Council & Co-Chairman, CII ER MSME Subcommittee & Managing Director & CEO Highco Engineers Pvt LTD emphasized on the vital role of MSME in generating employment and uplifting the socio-economic aspect of the society. He mentioned about PMEGP the various policies implemented by the government for easing the business ecosystem of India.

Prithish Chowdhary, Co-Chairman, CII ER Manufacturing Subcommittee & Director Marketing & Business Development Titagarh Rail System Limited said that investing in R&D to be the very first step in the vision of making India a manufacturing hub in the coming years. The rebalancing of ongoing world trade could bring $ 1 trillion of trade in India backed by an efficient policy implementation.

The Manufacturing Conclave had sessions on the potential of Indian manufacturing in the Global Value Chains; Future Factories and Industry 5.0; Sustainability & ESG in Manufacturing and the Role of MSMEs towards self-reliance and Atmanirbhar Manufacturing. The Conclave also saw the awards being given away for the Regional Quality Circle Convention 2023 to winning industries.

Industrial norm relaxation as in Odisha necessary: SK Behera

Jamshedpur, July 6: Suvendra Behera, Deputy Chairman, CII Eastern region & Vice Chairman & Managing Director RSB Transmission (I) Ltd in his address on the manufacturing ecosystem in the East spoke about the correlation between manufacturing and economic health of the country. Talking about the prospects of manufacturing in eastern part of India, he highlighted relaxation of various norms by Odisha government in providing land to the industry and the multiple subsidies granted by them in power and fertilizer.

“There is a need for substantial improvements in various regulations in Jharkhand, similar to the measures undertaken by the Odisha government. He highlighted the necessity to enhance land acquisition processes, ensure better electricity supply, and improve the availability of fertilizers in the state,” added Behera.
