1,068 degrees to be conferred at Jamshedpur Women’s University’s 3rd convocation

25 students to get gold medals, Shraddha Sinha to receive Rekha Jha medal

Governor to be chief guest of the function at XLRI Auditorium on Nov 19

Jamshedpur, Nov 17: Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) is set to host its third convocation ceremony on November 19, 2025, at the XLRI Auditorium. Preparations for the event are being finalized.  The chief guest of the function will be Jharkhand Governor cum Chancellor of Universities of Jharkhand Santosh Kumar Gangwar, said JWU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta

Addressing a press meet at university’s Sidhgora campus on Monday, VC stated, “Jamshedpur Women’s University remains firmly committed to timely examinations, prompt publication of results, and academic excellence. These values are reflected in our convocation ceremony this year.”

Addressing journalists, Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta expressed gratitude for their role in showcasing the achievements of students and the university.

“The media has constantly encouraged our university by recognizing the accomplishments of our students. We are grateful for this ongoing support,” she said.

Sharing the revised schedule, Prof. Gupta informed that Governor will arrive at 12:45 PM. The degree recipients must report by 10 AM. The administration has accordingly realigned plans to ensure a smooth program.

1,068 Degrees to Be Awarded

Controller of Examinations, Dr. Rama Subramaniam, shared key statistics stating that a total of 1,068 students will be awarded degrees this year, out of which 713 have registered to participate in the ceremony. She informed that 25 gold medals and 17 rank holders will receive special honours. Dr. Subramaniam also highlighted that each gold medal has been specially designed using 40 grams of pure silver with a gold coating, and the medal box will feature the name of the respective recipient. She added that all gold medalists and rank holders will be allowed to attend the convocation along with their parents. A formal dress code has been prescribed for students receiving degrees — white salwar-suit with a red dupatta or a white/cream saree with a red border.

New ‘Rekha Jha Medal’ announced

Prof. Gupta introduced the “Rekha Jha Medal for Excellence in Economics”, created in memory of Late Dr. Rekha Jha, former Head of the Department of Economics.The award includes a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, sponsored by her husband Varun Jha. This year, it will be presented to Shraddha Sinha, topper in Postgraduate Economics.

Vice-Chancellor further said that the university souvenir featuring NEP internships, and achievements in sports and cultural activities will be unveiled by the Governor during the ceremony.

The VC confirmed that all arrangements at XLRI Auditorium are complete. She emphasized collaborative efforts across departments for successful execution of the event and concluded: “This convocation is not just a ceremony; it reflects the growth, achievements and aspirations of our students and our university.”

Also present at the press meet were Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, Registrar Dr. Salomi Kujur, Development Officer Dr. Sanatan Deep, Dr. Manisha Titus, Head of the English Department, Proctor Dr. Sudhir Kumar Sahu and all members of the University Media Committee.
