Jamshedpur, May 31: The court of ADJ-I Dinesh Kumar has sentenced the culprits to life imprisonment in the case of kidnapping and killing Pankaj Rai, a resident of Gadra Gandhinagar located in Parsudih of Jamshedpur, for ransom. Apart from this, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1.65 lakh on the culprits.
Earlier, on May 27, the court had convicted the accused Suraj Sharma, Sukhra Samant and Rajendra Mahto alias Tinku. Twelve people had testified in this case. The court has imposed life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convicts in case 302 (murder), life imprisonment and fine of Rs 25,000 in case 364 (kidnapping), and five years in jail 201 (concealment of evidence) and a fine of Rs 5,000. . Failure to pay the fine will result in additional punishment. All punishments will run concurrently.
The incident is of 20 December 2019. In the case, a case of kidnapping was registered at Parsudih police station on the statement of the deceased’s brother Chandan Kumar Rai. Later, the police recovered Pankaj’s body from Dhanchatani village of Jadugoda. Pankaj was killed by being kicked with a stone. Later, while investigating the case, the police arrested Pankaj’s partner Rajendra Mahto alias Tinku and on his statements arrested accomplices Sukhram Samant and Suraj. Pankaj had taken a lot of debt which he was not paying back. so he was killed.
