Zila Parishad members demand cleaning in Bagbera-Kitadih by Jusco

Jamshedpur: Zila Parishad members led by its member Laxmi Devi today sat on a fast before the Jusco Office to demand cleaning of Bagbera, Kitadih and various adjoining localities.

The agitating Zila Parishad members handed over a memorandum to the general manager of Jusco and sought fulfillment of their demands as soon as possible. They said Jusco officials had assured to increase the number of dustbins in Bagbera-Kitadih area sometime back.

�Dustbins were installed at six main locations including Bagbera police station, Babakuti, Karpuri Thakur ground, Wireless ground, Bajrangi Maidan, Kunwar Singh ground and Garabasa Busti. A cleanliness drive was launched under corporate social responsibility initiative way back on April 2012 by Tata Steel Urban Services Department in collaboration with Jusco in Bagbera and Kitadih areas. A similar campaign needs to be launched in these areas to ensure hygiene and prevent epidemic breakout,� said Laxmi Devi.

The Zila Parishad members said the dustbins used to be cleaned every week earlier. But n July last, the dustbins were removed. As a result of the removal, garbage may be found heaping up in Bagbera and Kitadih apart from other adjoining areas. In the rainy season, the threat of epidemic breakout looms large in these areas, they said.

The agitating Zila Parishad members also demanded water supply in Bagbera and Kitadih by Jusco. They said vehicles should be made available to these areas for regular upkeep of hygiene. They said the company should not oppose the proposal to establish a municipal corporation in the city if it failed to maintain cleanliness and other services in the various areas including Bagbera and Kitadih.

They also threatened to stage an indefinite dharna before Tata Steel gate with the panchayat representatives of Bagbera and Kitadih in case their demands were not fulfilled soon.

Among those present during the fast included Rajkumar, Mukesh, Jamuna Hansda, Raju Singh, Bablu Kumar, Sanjay Mishra, Rakesh Pandey, Kamal Rathore, Harmohan Jha and RS Tyagi.
