Zila Parishad member booked for threatening contractor

Jamshedpur: An FIR was lodged against Zila Parishad member cum JMM leader Hiramuni Murmu on Saturday for allegedly threatening to kill a contractor, one Manoj Singh, and snatching Rs 20,000 from him yesterday.

In the FIR, the contractor alleged that Murmu had demanded five per cent commission from him as extortion money on the day of foundation laying ceremony of Dolai dam in Kalikapur, Potka. The MP of Jamshedpur Bidyut Baran Mahato and the MLA of Potka Menka Sardar were invited to the foundation laying ceremony, he said.
Irked over his refusal to pay extortion money, Murmu caught the contractor by his collar, abused and threatened him before attacking him with chappals, Singh said in the FIR.

The contractor further alleged that five other persons accompanying the Zila Parishad member forcibly took out Rs 20,000 from his pocket after assaulting him. He said the accused persons threatened to kill him in case he failed to pay the extortion money to them.
