Zealous voters hail democracy in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Voters showed zeal in electing their MP with long queues waiting outside election booths across the six constituencies right from 7 am onwards. Security was beefed up at all polling booths, especially highly sensitive and sensitive booths.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren cast his vote at St Francis School in the Capital. He was accompanied by his wife Kalpana Soren. Hemant looked cool while coming out of the booth. Among other prominent politicians who voted today included Congress leader and party candidate from Ranchi Subodhkant Sahay. He cast his vote at booth number 299 at the polling booth at HEC Women�s Committee building in Khijri Assembly constituency around 10.15 am. His wife Rekha Sahay also cast her vote.

Other candidates including Ram Tahal Choudhary of Bharatiya Janata Party, Amitabh Choudhary of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, Sudesh Mahato of All Jharkhand Students Union and Bandhu Tirkey of Trinamool Congress also cast their votes in the Capital. Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and BJP candidate from Khunti Kariya Munda cast his vote in the election booth near his residence in Khunti. Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha cast his vote in Hazaribagh.

Barring sporadic incidents, it was largely a peaceful day. Paramilitary jawans accompanied state police personnel at the polling booths. In Naxalite-hit areas, cops were especially alert. In Giridih, three security personnel were injured in a bomb explosion reportedly carried out by Maoists. Bombs were also recovered at few places, sources said.
