Youth Congress member Sonu Singh jailed for extortion

Jamshedpur: Jugsalai police here on Tuesday sent one Sonu Singh, a Youth Congress activist and a resident of Chhaprahiya Mohulla, Jugsalai, on charges of demanding Rs 1 lakh in extortion from one Dilip Goel, a businessman. The accused also allegedly assaulted the trader, who is a resident of Station Road under Jugsalai PS, sources said.
Police said local residents had handed over the accused to police. During investigation, the allegations were prima facie found to be true, police said.
Meanwhile, district Youth Congress president Sanjeev Ranjan today removed Sonu Singh from the party post with immediate effect. He said a two member probe committee had been set up by the party to find out if the allegations against Sonu Singh were true. The report would be sent to the Jamshedpur in-charge Abhinav Sidharth and state president.
