Jamshedpur: A cleanliness drive was launched in Karandih by the members of Potka Assembly Youth Congress Committee on Monday. It was carried out under the leadership of the outfit president Nirmal Patro. The outfit members cleaned the DVC pond in Karandih. Heaps of garbage had reduced the pond to a reeking bog, said the campaigners. State Youth Congress secretary Rakesh Sahu said the pond was cleaned with the view to allow Chhath devotees to perform Chhath puja here. Local residents also joined the campaign to clean the pond with enthusiasm. The campaigners also filled potholes on the road leading to the pond. Among those present on the occasion included Sanatan Bhagat, Ranjeet Raut, Bharat Singh, Ashish Thakur, Ratan Rajak, Pappu Mukhi and Krishna Thakur.
