Jamshedpur : In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old youth was nabbed while stealing a four-year-old girl from her father’s lap on New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Superfast Express on Tuesday.
The matter was reported at the GRP Tatanagar late in the night, leading the officer-in-charge of GRP to register a case in connection to the incident on Wednesday.The accused was identified Satrughna Chandra Rajbanshi, a resident of Gaya district in Bihar.
Superintendent railway police, Tatanagar, Md. Arshi said that Keshab Prasad (45) who is a resident of Kanpur on Tuesday boarded the superfast at Kanpur station for going to Khurda Road station in Odisha. The victim was travelling in the general compartment.
” As per our information when the train stopped at Gaya, the accused Satrughna boarded the train in the general compartment and remained around the seat where Keshab was napping with his daughter Smriti in the lap.
But at about 2 pm, the accused suddenly came and picked up the child from the man’s lap and started moving away. But incidentally, Keshap woke up as his lap was relieved and saw his daughter in someone other’s lap who was moving fast toward the other end of the bougie,” said Arshi.
The SRP said soon Keshap cried for help, leading the co-passengers to chase the accused who was caught immediately.
The SRP said though the accused did not open his mouth, from the manner he had made the attempt to steal the child, it appeared that he had some motive behind the abduction of the child.
