Jamshedpur , June 25 : Police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly attempting to rape a 19-year-old girl behind the Baridih Post Office under Sidhgora police station area on Saturday evening.
Though the accused identified as Sanjay Kalindi, had an affair with the girl, he was arrested after the girl lodged a written complaint against him. Kalindi is a resident of Birsanagar like the victim who is of 19 years.
OC, Sidhgora police station, Ashok Kumar confirmed that though the accused and the complainant knew each other since last two years, they were left with no option than to send him to jail as the victim was adamant on her stand.
“According to the girl the accused was known to her. She had also stated that the accused had assaulted her, but as she claimed in her written complaint that he had tried to rape her, we arrested the youth and sent him to the Ghaghidih Central Jail after producing before a judicial magistrate today,” said Kumar.
After the girl had lodged the complaint with the Sidhgora police station, the police immediately nabbed the accused. After the accused was taken into custody, several residents of Birsanagar including a local JMM activist had approached the police for convincing them that the accused should be spared.
