Young married woman hangs self at Mango, kins suspect murder

Jamshedpur, Nov. 5: In an alleged case of suicide, a 21-year-old married woman named Madhu Mandal was found hanging at her residence on Thursday morning. The police took her husband Binod Mandal (28) into custody after his wife was found hanging in her room at Sankosai under Ulidih police station area.

Binod Mandal was taken into custody after the deceased’s brother Santosh Mandal lodged an FIR alleging Binod and his parents have murdered the young woman for dowry.

A resident of Sankusai, Madhu was married to Binod after an affair between them three years ago. The couple has a one-year-old daughter.

Officer-in-charge, Ulidih police station, Kamlesh Paswan said “We are investigating the incident. It is too early to comment. We have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem to ascertain whether it is a case of suicide or murder. Though it is not clear whether the woman was murdered, as the deceased’s parents have lodged a complaint of murder for dowry, we have taken Binod Mandal into custody to interrogate him.”

Binod and his family members claimed that they spotted Madhu hanging from a ceiling fan. They claimed that the door of the room was locked from inside and they had to break open the door before taking the Madhu down and seeking treatment.

On the other hand, the victim’s brother Santosh Mandal alleged that Madhu has been murdered. In the FIR, Santosh has stated that three years ago when Madhu was married to Binod, they had given the accused adequate dowry.
