Jamshedpur, Jan. 28: The entrepreneurship cell of XLRI along with Ankit Singh (28), a second-year business management student of the premier management cradle, and Nitin Sharma, a youth from Bhopal, has launched a food ordering startup Gravycart.com in Jamshedpur.
The startup has tied up with different restaurants in Jamshedpur to host their menu on their website and deliver their food to customers.
The project, which started in December 2015, enjoys the support of the entrepreneurship cell, a forum promoting entrepreneurial activities in XLRI.
Presently, the team has tied up with 15 restaurants and plans to have 25 restaurants on its website by the end of this month. Currently the team is delivering 30 orders on an average daily, within just two weeks of launch.
We are also investing in technology and will come out with an app for delivery boy and introduce a feature for customer to locate his delivery boy in real time. Customers can order items from any listed restaurant on the platform and there in no minimum order value, said Ankit.
He added, Currently, we are serving main the localities of Jamshedpur and plan to expand our operation to the entire city in next one month. We are also in discussion with restaurants to launch packed lunch meals for office goers. We plan to expand to 10 cities in eastern India in next one year.
The idea of the startup propelled when sitting in his room Ankit got a call from his old friend Nitin, who had just moved to Jamshedpur, and wanted to see XLRI. Chatting about old days it was dinner time and the two planned to go out for dinner.
But their plan was spoiled by rain and neither could they go out nor order food. This made them realise a problem, which is faced by a lot of people who want to order food at their home, but are unable do so.
This gave birth to the startup idea. Ankit, who is member of the entrepreneurship cell of XLRI, met his team and shared the idea and it was taken up by the team. Three more members Ankit Mittal, Pranshu and Sumeet from the organizations E -Cell started shaping this idea to reality.
The entrepreneurship cell (E- Cell) of XLRI is a student-run body formed with a view to promote entrepreneurship among the students. An effort to foster and improve entrepreneurship and related activities, the entrepreneurship cell holds myriads of events, workshops and summits throughout the year.
Gravycart has tied up with hotspots like Ramada, Hotel South Park, Fortune Park Centre Point Hotel, Pind Balluchi, Chopstick, Kwality and Asian Inn.
The menus of these restaurants and hotels have been uploaded on the website.
All a customer has to do is register on the website or simply log in as a guest, choose from the menu, place the order and pay on delivery.
With the help of an application, the order reaches both the Gravycart office in Adityapur and the concerned restaurant. The best part is that there is no minimum order value.
