Jamshedpur : XLRI is gearing up to organize Valhalla-2014, the flagship sports and cultural event of XLRI, Jamshedpur. The third edition of Valhalla is slated to be an even grander affair with more participants, more events and more fun.
It encompasses over 50 events and witnesses footfall of over 3000 people with participation from some of the best B-Schools in India including IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Ranchi, XIMB ,IIM- Raipur, FMS, SIBM, and NMIMS .
The extravaganza flags off on July 25 with the Ability Unlimited Concert, a string of scintillating performances by differently abled artists on wheel chairs. Valhalla, as part of its initiative to inspire the young sparks of the nation, has invited students and faculty of around 40 schools from across the city to be a part of this noble initiative.
We are also organising a painting competition across these schools on the theme Celebrating Contrasts to commemorate the spirit of Valhalla. Another cornerstone of Valhalla is the 5th Annual Jamshedpur Run, a part of our continued efforts of promoting social harmony and youth empowerment.
The mini marathon (with track lengths of 5 and 10 km) will aim to congregate the youth and sensitize them towards their individual social responsibility of bringing more smiles in the lives of strangers in whichever way small or big they can. The run is scheduled for July 27. It will be flagged off from the XLRI main gate, by the legendary mountaineer, Bachendri Pal, and Tarun Daga, chairman CII (Jharkhand), said a member of organising committee.
Valhalla will feature events across the spectrum of sports, cultural and outdoor events. The prominent sporting events include basketball, football, table tennis, volley ball, badminton, throw ball and chess.
On the cultural front we have lined up a spate of exciting events including the stage play, fashion show, solo dance, group dance, quiz, debate, street play and solo singing. A host of on the edge informal events has been scheduled for the participants including our signature adventure game, Quest Adventura.
Till the last edition the proceeds of the pro-show were donated to the Milaap Foundation, a fund-raising platform that enables people around the world to fund and impact communities in need of basic facilities in India.
This time round, we will be collaborating with the Ability Unlimited Foundation (AUF), a Delhi based foundation which is doing truly commendable work in reaching out to differently-abled citizens of all ages right from providing them all amenities, education, vocational training and meaningful opportunities to earn their livelihoods, noted the member.
