World Wetlands Day celebrated at Jamshedpur’s Tata Zoo

 

Jamshedpur, Feb 2: World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of February to raise global awareness on the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet.

As cities grow and demand for land increases, the tendency is to encroach on wetlands which lead to decreasing of surface area of wetlands and subsequently all other uses. Today`s current development of human settlements is a major concern for wetland conservation.

The developing cities are also on the journey towards being one of the developed cities of the world. On this journey all cities are losing its natural wetlands. These wetlands are being destroyed to make buildings, houses, etc. for the city’s residents and modernization. To make the general public as well as school children of Jamshedpur aware of this crisis, Tata Steel Zoological Park was celebrated World Wetland Day 2024 focusing on this year’s theme “Wetlands and Human Wellbeing.

The main purpose of this celebration was to spread the message of wetland conservation and its importance in human life. On this occasion, Tata Steel Zoological Park organized a Talk on “Restoration of wetlands and their sustainable use” by Dr. Hishmi Jamil Husain, Head, Biodiversity, corporate services, Tata Steel Ltd. A total of 304 School children along with their accompanying teachers from Shyen International School, Mango participated on the occasion.
