Jamshedpur, Sept: Kolhan Divisional Gram Sabha Federation organized a one day workshop on �The role of Gram Sabha in democracy� in Bada Sigdi village of Potka on Wednesday.
The outfit advisor Sidheshwar Sardar said representative democracy had been imposed on the people in 1956 as a result of which the existence of Gram Sabha is in jeopardy. He said traditional Gram Sabha is unable to succeed in its mission due to the modern form of democracy. He said a campaign would be launched in the villages to ensure the success of participatory democracy. Meetings would be held with villagers to form a consensus on the issue, he said.
Among others present at the meeting included Malti Tigga, Salge Mardi, Ghasiram Sardar, Guni Hembram, Parvati Hansda and Purnima Biruli.
