Workshop on ‘Enhancing the Value of Girl Child’ at Ghatshila College

Ghatshila, Feb 9: With the aim of enhancing the value of girl child, a 7-day workshop between February 7 and 9 was organized at Ghatshila College. During the course of the workshop that concluded on Friday, 10 module videos were screened among the students. In 8 of these modules, a video focusing on the life of a girl, Anandi, was shown. The other two module videos provided information regarding different types of activities. Principal Dr. RK Choudhary, while addressing the students, said that they should not hesitate to express their problems. “If you have any personal problem related to college enrolment, examination, forms, registration, certificate, identity card and other issues in the campus, please do not hesitate to meet me.”

He told the girl students, “You should learn to express yourselves. There is no need to bring any other person along for help. Increase your self-confidence, only then will you be able to become self-reliant.”

NSS Program Officer Prof. Archana Surin presented the report in the week long workshop. The program was conducted by Prof. Indal Paswan.

After the program a rally, flagged off by Principal Dr Chaudhary, was taken out by the workshop [participants. A Women’s Cell was formed in the college to provide a healthy and cordial environment to the girl students studying in the college. Through the Cell, any complaint of misbehavior and harassment against girl students would be heard and would be resolved confidentially.

The Principal also introduced the students to all teachers of this Cell. Women’s Cell President Prof. Archana Surin, Secretary Prof. Soma Singh, and Dr. Kanchan Sinha, Dr. Singho Soren, Prof. Basanti Mardi and Chandana Mukherjee were members of this Cell.

Dr. SK Singh, Dr. SP Singh, Dr. Sandeep Chandra, Professor Maheshwar Pramanik, Prof. Soma Singh, Dr. Kanchan Sinha, Dr. Singho Soren, Prabal Manjari Patar, Mallika Sharma, AK Dutta, Basanti Mardi, Manik Mardi were present on the occasion.
