Jamshedpur, March 29 : After about a month of anti-encroachment, the railway and road construction department (RCD) which are jointly making the railway over bridge, started removing debris.
During the drive more than 100 residential building, including several three-storeyed ones and business establishments which had been set up on railway land unauthorisedway wererazed in the anti-encroachment drive. This led tohuge quantity of debris. The railway is to set up ROB by spending Rs 6 crores and the RCD has to set up approach road at a cost of Rs 12.93 crores.
As per the project, an approach road is to be set up on a stretch of about 500 metres on the railway land.As the project was getting delayed the RCD’s Jamshedpur division under which the ROB is being constructed engaged its contractor, Triveni Construction Pvt Ltd to clear the debris.
An official of RCD’s Jamshedpur division said the removing debris from the proposed site for the ROB was a major hurdle behind initiating the construction, but now it is over. “We have asked Triveni Construction, the firm which will set up the approach road, for removing the debris so that we may expedite the ROB construction work,” said Sahay.
An official said as there is heavy traffic during the day time, they are removing the debris during night. He said they would finish the approach road project within a year time.
The railway has finalised the blueprint for the Rs 21.54 crore project. The road over bridge was a long pending demand of the people residing at Jugsalai. Sources informed that of the 21.54 crores, 9.77 crores will be spent by the railway, where as the remaining Rs 11.77 crores will be borne by the state government. The road over bridge would ensure smooth traffic and avoid decongestion as the commuters face it now while crossing the level crossing. The existing Jugsalai roundabout will remain where it is not, but its size will be reduced mariginally.
After pressure from local representatives, the state road construction division had carried out a survey earlier this year and submitted the proposed area for construction of the approach for the railway overbridge and the encroached structures which had made the administration to go for the demolition drive.
Meanwhile, the drive near the Jugsalai railway crossing had led to traffic snarl on the important Jugsalai-Tatanagar Station stretch of the road for several hours causing discomfort for commuters.
