Seraikela, Jan 14: A 50-year-old vendor Mohammed Hamid, a resident of Tajnagar under Kapali outpost in Seraikela-Kharsawan district committed suicide on Thursday by hanging after alleging of mental harassment by an influential woman of the locality.
According to relatives of the deceased, the influential woman Anjum Perveen had taken amount of over Rs 1.70 croe from nearly 70 persons on the plea that their money would be doubled and had fled from the area. The deceased and other lenders had lodged a case at the Kapali OP against the woman. Police taking action on the basis of the complaint had arrested the woman and send her to jail.
The woman after spending 11 months in jail got out on bail and since then has been threatening Mohammed Hamid Ansari and other lenders who had lodged case in police. After constant harassment Mohammed Hamid Ansari ended his life today.
Police took custody of the body and sent it for post mortem and is investigating in to the allegation.
Meanwhile, irate locals after the suicide attacked the house of the influential woman and damaged the belonging after which police reached the spot and provided security to the woman and the house.
Kapali OP in-charge Vijay Yadav said that police is probing the case and if the woman is guilty she would be arrested.
