Woman sells daughter, abandons son to elope with lover

Ranchi: A Bihar woman allegedly sold her daughter to a businessman and left her son at a school hostel in order to elope with her lover. The incident is being reported from Muzaffarpur district where she moved from Ranchi with her husband a few years back.
According to reports, her husband passed away in 2021. After her husband’s demise, the woman developed romantic feelings for another man and opted to marry him. However, the man declined to take on the responsibility of her children.
This prompted the woman to sell her daughter to a local businessman, while she left her son at a private school’s hostel.
The matter came to light when the administration of her son’s hostel notified the family regarding the unpaid hostel fees. After receiving the details from the hostel administration, the child’s grandfather lodged a zero FIR in Ranchi, which was subsequently transferred to Muzaffarpur.
Further investigations by the police are underway. Both – the businessman who bought the child and the intermediary involved in the transaction – were arrested by the authorities.
On Monday, a court in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district handed a 15-year prison sentence to a Bihar resident for raping a 23-year-old woman. The two had connected after an unintended missed call, which resulted in their friendship. The accused was also fined Rs 25,000.
Upon receiving an unintentional missed call from the woman, the man began making regular calls to her, eventually leading to their friendship. One day, he traveled to Bokaro to meet her in person.
They rendezvoused at a Bokaro hotel, where he covertly laced her food with drugs. This caused her to lose consciousness, and he sexually assaulted her. He also filmed the act.
