Jamshedpur: An unidentified man duped a woman at Dwarika Road, Burmamines, by tricking her in Thursday morning. He made away with ATM cards, Rs 20,000 cash and jewelry before the fraud could be detected.
The victim, Dhano Hembram, said a man claiming to be a colleague of her husband, Ram Hembram, a Tata Steel employee, came to her house at 11 am and demanded cash and valuables. The man told the woman that her husband had been arrested in connection with a theft in the company.
He said the cash and valuables were needed to set her husband free. When the woman tried calling her husband, the man stopped her and said police officials were still questioning her husband. She ultimately gave away the cash, jewelry, ATM cards and bank passbooks to the stranger.
Later, the woman spoke to her husband only to learn that she had been duped. She lodged an FIR with the Burmamines police station in this connection. She said the impostor had withdrawn Rs 50,000 in two installments shortly after the incident.
