Jamshedpur, Dec. 16: Traffic was hit between Kadma and Adityapur toll bridge for about two hours as a section of residents of Ramjanam Nagar set up a blockade protesting an accidental death of an elderly woman early Sunday morning.
The mishap took place in front of Kerala Public School on Kadma-Bhatia Bustee Road near Adityapur toll bridge.
According to information, the victim was walking through the road, a commercial vehicle which was coming from the Marine Drive and hit her from behind. The victim was killed on the spot.
As soon as the mishap took place the driver of the vehicle fled the spot. Peeved over the incident the residents of the locality rushed to the spot and blocked the road. The residents also tried to set the mini-truck on fire but by the time the police had reached the spot.
OC, Kadmapolice station JK Thakur confirmed about the mishap death of an elderly woman at on Kadma-Bhatia Bustee Road in the morning.
” As per our probe the elderly woman walking and she was killed on the spot on being hit by the mini-truck. The driver has fled the spot leaving the vehicle abandoned. We have seized it,” said Thakur.
The OC said that the residents were demanding Rs 5 lakh compensation, but the protestors were agreed to lift the blockade after the local administration paid the victim’s kin Rs 10,000 as compensation.The blockade was set up at 6.30 am and was lifted by 8.30 am.
A long queue of trucks, trailers and other mode of vehicles had been made as the vehicular communication came to a standstill due to the blockade. Commuters had to suffer immensely.
As this was the prominent road for plying of trucks and trailers carrying goods, this caused great inconvenience to the local residents and also others. When the two-wheelers and pedestrians took to other routes, those in four-wheelers and three wheelers remained stuck up in the jam.
