CII organises session on sustainability

Jamshedpur, March 14: CII Jharkhand State Council on Wednesday organized a conference on �Sustainability: The Inclusive Approach For Responsible Business� at Beldih Club in Bistupur on Wednesday.

Discussion on various initiative and benefits for the industry including policy initiatives from state government and projecting the state as the preferred investment destination was part of the agenda of the session.

Immediate Past chairman of CII Jharkhand State council and Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Sunil Bhaskaran highlighted that business today has to be very responsive especially given the obvious fragilities and uncertainties of today�s world. He added that with the advent of technology, there is an opportunity to reinvent society, and ways of doing business that are more sustainable and inclusive.

He also mentioned that with Governments, business and civil society frequently clashing at the intersection of economic policy and conjecture over future livelihood viability, sustainability has asserted itself as a precondition, a license to operate, or simply a moral imperative.

Shubhenjit Chaudhuri, managing director, Tata Pigments, mentioned that the challenge for responsible business leaders is what can businesses do to become leaders in making a better society. He further elaborated that it also entails improving quality of lives of its citizens and economic empowerment. He further highlighted the significance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the compliance and governance structure corporates should imbibe moving ahead ,he also talked about the cost of non compliance.

A.B. Lall, Head Manufacturing CVBU , Tata Motors, in his address mentioned that Tata Motors is the first automobile company to be recognised by the President in the area of Energy Conservation, it received the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award in the year 2017. He also highlighted that Tata Motors has now become a zero liquid discharge unit.

Killol Kamani, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council thanked all the speakers for sharing their views. He further mentioned that India is a country of sharp contrasts and he therefore urged businesses to meet their responsibilities towards their workers and suppliers, as well as to society and the environment, together with their responsibilities towards their shareholders.
