Administration to launch awareness drive against witch-hunting

Jamshedpur, March 22: Witch hunting is a bane for human society and this social evil is not acceptable in any way. There is need to eliminate this evil practice through a massive public awareness campaign at village and panchayat level. This was observed by the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav at a review meeting of the District Social Welfare Department held at Jamshedpur Collectorate on Tuesday.
The DC said directed the social welfare department officials to spread mass awareness on the ill-effects of witch hunting and various legal penal provisions that may be invoked to punish those who perpetrate the social evil. Legal provisions are there to protect the victims of witch hunting and harsh measures would be taken against persons or group of persons found involved in such illegal activities, she said.
Jadhav further asked the social welfare department officials to bring about mass awareness on various government schemes such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, Tejasvini Scheme and scholarship schemes for physically challenged persons. She also ordered campaigning on anaemia among young girls and women.
The DC asked all women supervisors of anganbaris to ensure field visit of 15 to 20 days every month. She directed them to take special care of the nutritional diet provided to children at anganbari centres and also set up Poshan Vatika (nutrition garden) at all anganbari centres.
Jadhav said East Singhbhum had achieved cent per cent target under Mukhyamantri Sukanya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanyadaan Yojana. In Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana, the district has secured the second place in Jharkhand, she said.
Deputy Development Commissioner, Pradip Prasad, and all senior officials of the social welfare department were present at today’s meeting.
