PATNA: The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear the case related to the release of former MP Anand Mohan. Former Gopalganj DM G Krishnaiah’s wife Uma Krishnaiah had filed a petition against Anand Mohan after he came out of jail serving his sentence in the G Krishnaiah murder case.
Terming this release as illegal, G Krishnaiah’s wife had also challenged the decision of Bihar government’s jail manual in which Anand Mohan was released after amending it.
It is known that earlier, the government’s lawyer had informed the Supreme Court that the state government has considered remission of sentence of 97 convicted persons in a single day. The government has not only given exemption to gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan, but apart from him many other prisoners have also been given exemption.
After hearing the government’s side, the Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Dutta asked, “Were all these 97 people accused of murdering a public servant? Their case is that the policy has been changed to release Anand Mohan.”
It is worth mentioning here that after amendment in the jail manual of Bihar, Anand Mohan was released from Saharsa jail. Uma Krishnaiah’s petition alleges that the Bihar government amended the Bihar Prison Rules 1912 with effect from April 10, 2023, to ensure that convict Anand Mohan is given the benefit of remission.
