Jamshedpur : The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has approved an exchange of animals between Tata Steel Zoological Park ( Jamshedpur Zoo) and Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park, Tirupati (Tirupati Zoo). As per the proposal, Tirupati Zoo shall be providing a male white tiger of age 4 years named Kailash, three pairs of Star tortoise, a pair of Grey jungle fowl and two pairs of porcupine.
Jamshedpur zoo will be providing a pair of Mandrill Monkey to Tirupati Zoo. Tata Steel Zoological Park has currently nine mandrills.
Kailash is proposed to arrive in Jamshedpur Zoo on (2nd March, 2014) the eve of the Tata Steel Foundation day. A five member team from Tirupati Zoo led by their Veterinary Officer, Dr.Naveen Kumar will bring in the animals and return with Mandrills.
Kailash is the second white tiger arriving in the Jamshedpur zoo since its inception in 1992. Earlier a female white tiger (Reeta) was brought from Aurangabad zoo in December, 2010. She died in February, 2012 due to old age complications. Kailash will be paired with Dona, daughter of zoo tigers Raghav and Shanti.
Kailash will be kept under quarantine at the Zoo tiger enclosure for a period of 15 days after which it will be put on display for the visitors.
