Jamshedpur: Flesh trade is `flourishing’ in the Steel City with young women and men taking to sex work to make easy money, under the ‘shield’ of beauty parlours.
Rackets of forcing the girls for indulging in flesh trade are active in the city. The district administration is greatly worried at the increasing number of sex rackets that are flourishing in and around the city.
Social organization Jharkhand Nagrik Adhikar Manch handed over a memorandum to SSP and demanded that a nodal officer must be appointed for taking immediate action.
Men’s beauty parlours with women staff have mushroomed across marketplaces in Sakchi, Telco, Bistupur, Kadma and Sonari.
But what is worse, a number of beauty parlours of this kind have been set up in densely-populated slum areas too.
Consequently, the law enforcing agencies and the police find it difficult to curb its spread.
Several raids were conducted in recent past parlours in Sakchi, Golmuri and Mango and many girls booked under the immoral trafficking act.
“Unless the beauty parlour owners are not booked, nothing can be done to check its spread. Even if we arrest the accused they are easily bailed out from the court we need to act strongly to cub the menacem,” said a police official.

According to information, in first six months of the year alone 20 odd cases have been reported from different parts of the city. However officials here feel there are too many loopholes in the prevention of immoral traffic act (pita), 1976, which is allowing pita violators go scot-free.
In the last few months, the police have busted a number of such rackets. However, a senior police officer said: “It has been observed that offenders get bail the day they are produced in court. Moreover, there is no follow-up action by the police.
In most of the cases, the flat and house-owners take anticipatory bail, so the police cannot do anything to book them.
Also, sexual intimacy between consenting adults cannot be considered an offence.”
A recent raid at a NH 33 based resort also showed several couples in compromising positions. These hotels are frequented by businessmen and even students.
Apparently, couples came to the flats as guests and indulged in immoral activities.
“ At least twice a month the raids are conducted on different resorts along NH 33, but the couples go scott-free in most of the cases,” an officer.
