Jamshedpur, August 30: The two-day LIC East Central Zonal Chess Tournament 2024, organized by the DSC and LIESC of the Jamshedpur Division, concluded with intense competition at the Jeevan Prakash Building in Bistupur on August 29. The tournament featured top players from across the region, competing in both men’s and women’s sections.
In the women’s section, Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Kiran Manisha Mohanty emerged victorious, securing the top spot with 4.5 points. Nemali Padma Sailaja followed closely, taking second place with 4 points, while Trivedi Manisha secured third place with 3 points. Ratnapriya Raj also performed well, finishing in fourth place with 3 points.
The men’s section saw Ashutosh Mohapatra dominate the field, finishing first with an impressive 5.5 points. Himangshu B Chakraborty and Amresh both scored 4.5 points, securing second and third places, respectively. Bidhu Bhusan Mishra rounded out the top four with 4 points.
The top three players in each category were awarded for their performances, while the top four players will go on to represent the East Central Zone at the All India LIC Chess Tournament 2024.
A total of 22 players participated in the tournament, with 12 in the men’s category and 10 in the women’s category. The final day saw three rounds played in both categories, bringing the total to six rounds for the men and five for the women.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Shyam Sundar Besra, RM (HRD), Patna, alongside Ananta Bhushan Rath, Sr. DM, Jamshedpur, and G. Ravi Shankar, Honorary Secretary of the LIE Sports Club. The tournament was expertly officiated by Chief Arbiter (International Arbiter) Chandan Kumar Prasad.
