West Singhbhum district to achieve Open Defecation Free Status by 2019: DC

Chaibasa, July 17: Swachha Bharat Mission of Chaibasa district organized one day workshop on community led total sanitation program at Pillai hall, Chaibasa on Sunday.

Deputy commissioner Dr Shantanu Kumar Agrahori inaugurated the workshop by lighting the auspicious lamp .

While speaking to the BDOs Block coordinators and BEEOs of west Singhbhum district , DC said that Swachhata program was started in 1954 and we could achieve only 45 per cent till date and we have to complete 60 per cent Sawchha Bharat Mission before 2019 and we have to make the district totally free from open defecation.

DC further said that we have decided to implement the swachha Bharat Mission through community led programme we have to involve natural leaders and also we have to encourage the people to make toilets by themselves and 12 thousand rupees will be given by the government .

He also added that we must have monitoring team to follow up the work and make the people habitual to use toilets regularly and discard open defecation .

DC also laid stress upon the BDOs to involve school students in motivating their parents to construct toilet and certain students should be made in charges from every school and such students should be given a special recognition which would inspire other students to follow their foot prints.

DC made it clear to the BDOs BEEOs and block coordinators to expedite the work and fulfill the target before 2019 . Special trainer Raghu Kumar explained in detail the community led total sanitation program me by citing example of Bijnor district how the district became free from open defecation with the help of community involvement.

He also mentioned that Jharkhand is still far behind in compare to the other states . He also showed graph through projector India is the only nation where 56 per cent people go for open defecation .

Government constructed 9 crore toilets but more than 3 crore toilets found missing . Raghu kumar asked the BDOs to organize community and monitoring trainees camp for five days to execute community led program .

The program was anchored by Ilayeke Ahmed PHD officer . The present among others were Executive engineer ER Sunil Kumar, Nagar Parishad Executive officer Kamal Kumar Singh , AC Sadanand and BDOs BEEOs and other block level officers of west Singhbhum District.
