Webinar on ‘Terrorism: A Threat to the Nation’ at Karim City College Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Geography Department of Karim City College, Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organized an insightful webinar lecture on “Terrorism: A Threat to the Nation.” The event aimed to shed light on the critical issue of terrorism, its causes, and its far-reaching impacts on society.

Dr. Tanvir Jamal Kazmi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Karim City College, served as the guest speaker for the webinar. The event saw the participation of the college’s Principal, Dr. Mohammad Riaz, Head of the Geography Department, Dr. Ale Ali, Assistant Professors Dr. Farzana Anjum and Dr. Pasarul Islam, NSS Coordinator Syed Sajid Parvez, NSS volunteers, and over 100 students.

The webinar commenced with an introductory speech by Dr. Ale Ali, who defined terrorism as an act aimed at instilling fear among the populace through unlawful means. He emphasized the importance of addressing this global menace.

Dr. Mohammad Riaz, Principal of Karim City College, welcomed the guest speaker, faculty members, and students. In his address, he highlighted the pervasive threat posed by terrorism and urged collective efforts to combat it effectively.

In his keynote lecture, Dr. Tanvir Jamal Kazmi described terrorism as the use of violence or intimidation to achieve political goals. He elaborated on its multifaceted causes, including religious and financial motivations, and pointed out that poor governance often acts as a catalyst for its rise.

Dr. Kazmi discussed the devastating effects of terrorism, such as psychological trauma, economic damage, and business disruptions, which affect both individuals and the broader society. He also provided practical solutions, advocating for international cooperation, robust national policies, respect for human rights, and improved governance to curb terrorism.

Following the lecture, Dr. Farzana Anjum moderated a question-answer session where students posed thoughtful queries. Dr. Kazmi addressed each question with clarity, providing in-depth insights into the subject matter and enriching the learning experience for attendees.
