Jamshedpur: A major disruption in water supply has hit several localities in Mango after the main pipeline connected to the Zone-1 overhead water tank was accidentally damaged on Friday.
The incident occurred when an NHAI contractor-operated JCB machine was carrying out drainage excavation work near Sahara City on NH-33.
The damaged pipeline supplies drinking water to nearly 25 lakh-liter capacity overhead tank catering to around 5,000 households.
Areas affected include Kumrum Basti, Samta Nagar, Mangal Colony, Jharkhand Basti, Parmeshwar Colony, Indira Colony, Chandravati Nagar, and parts of Pardih.
Residents have been facing severe difficulties due to the sudden halt in water supply.
In receiving the information, public representative Santosh Bhagat, on behalf of MLA Saryu Roy, rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation.
He informed the MLA about the issue and conveyed his strict instructions to ensure immediate repair work and restore water supply at the earliest.
Officials and staff from Mango Municipal Corporation, including AE Amit Anand, as well as PHED personnel, were present at the site and have initiated emergency measures to repair the damaged line.
Authorities assured that normal water supply will be restored soon.
