Jamshedpur, April 28: In areas like Mango, Dimna, and Parsudih, people are facing problems of acute water shortage. With the increasing temperature, the underground water table is going down, making it difficult for electric motors and hand-pumps to draw water. This has led to water crisis in many parts of the city.
Many houses are getting water for just two hours twice a day, and are forced to buy from water tankers at much higher prices. Utkarsha Mahto, a resident of Parsudih revealed that the people in her area have been relying on water tankers since the last two months. She said, Temperature is rising day by day; we are expecting a very hot summer this time. But the problem of water shortage is aggravating. It will be very difficult for us to bear this torturous summer.
Residents of Vatika Green City, a colony located in Dimna, had complained to the colonys management regarding the central fountain which used up a lot of precious water while the residents faced the problem of water shortage. Summer seems to be long this year and the administration needs to look for different alternatives to counter the water shortage. Some residents have suggested that rainwater harvesting should be made compulsory in certain areas which can lead to conservation of water. Others have suggested that scientific machinery be used to draw water from the underground water table.
