Dhanbad, Nov 13: On the night of Diwali, a devastating fire broke out in the warehouse of Sharma Decorator and Caterers, situated near Polytechnic College in Baramudi, Dhanbad. The inferno, ignited by sparks from firecrackers, resulted in the destruction of property worth approximately Rs 1 crore stored in the warehouse.
The inventory included 4 thousand chairs, sofas, mattresses, clothes, utensils, fridges, bamboo, and various decorative items. Despite attempts by local residents to extinguish the flames by opening the warehouse gate, their efforts were hindered as the gate failed to open. Warehouse owner Ganesh Sharma, upon receiving information about the fire, promptly contacted the fire department.
Four fire engines from the fire department rushed to the scene and, after significant efforts, managed to bring the fire under control. Ganesh Sharma, who had left the warehouse after performing Lakshmi puja on the night of Diwali, was shocked to receive a call informing him about the fire around 10:30 pm. Distraught, he immediately reached out to the Dhanbad police station and the fire department to report the incident.
However, by the time the fire department arrived, the entire property had been reduced to ashes. Some local residents speculated that the fire might have been triggered by a short circuit. Witnesses claimed that the fire engines reached the warehouse an hour after the incident occurred around 11 pm. Despite the delayed response, the fire department worked diligently for three to four hours to bring the blaze under control.
Ganesh Sharma expressed the profound loss, noting that his 20 years of hard-earned capital was now destroyed. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, and the community has rallied around to support the affected family during this challenging time.
